Regulation (EU) 2018/848 is the governing framework for EU organic production and the use of the EU organic logo. It replaced the earlier Regulation (EC) No [[https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A02007R0834-20220101|834/2007]] and its main implementing regulation (EC) No [[https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A02008R0889-20220101|889/2008]]. The 2018 Regulation came into full force on 1 January 2022 after a transition period. It explicitly includes seaweeds and microalgae within its scope, treating them as aquaculture products (Part III) while simultaneously acknowledging that they are plant-derived commodities for CN/nomenclature purposes — reflecting the genuine regulatory hybridity of algae discussed throughout these pages. Regulation (EU) 2018/848 is the governing framework for EU organic production and the use of the EU organic logo.
