| ===== Authors, Contributors, Editors ===== | ===== About These Pages ===== |
| |
| These pages have been edited and formulated in their present form under the EU-funded Horizon Europe project [[https://www.locality-algae.eu/|Locality]]. However, the activity leading to these pages predates the project and will hopefully continue after it ends. | This wiki is a structured, freely accessible reference guide to EU legislation relevant to the production and use of algae and algal products. It is maintained as a living document by a community of practitioners, researchers and legal experts working in the European algae sector, and is kept current as legislation is amended and new regulatory developments emerge. |
| |
| Within the project we decided it was time to present all this regulatory information in a compact and accessible way, and to make it publicly available for the benefit of any member — or potential member — of the algal community. Many EU projects have or had a task dedicated to legislation and regulation, and most are asked to provide a legislative feedback or deliverable. We have collected much of the information from public or restricted-circulation deliverables of several projects. We have compiled data from the many sources cited throughout these pages, and we have discussed the topics in person and remotely with many knowledgeable people. | The information compiled here draws on public and project deliverables from multiple EU-funded research and innovation projects, on scientific literature, on EFSA and Commission guidance documents, and on direct exchanges with experts across the sector — accumulated over more than a decade of regulatory engagement within EABA and related networks. |

| ==== The Algal Community in Europe ==== | ==== The Algae Community in Europe ==== |
| | |
| The algal community in the EU is, in many ways, a large family: we meet regularly, we know each other or at least know of each other. Several organisations enable the social contacts and cooperation that make these pages possible. | |
| |
| * **[[https://www.eaba-association.eu/|EABA]] — European Algae Biomass Association** is the most important networking body, with more than 300 members from industry and academia, and organises many events. EABA has always been actively involved in regulation and legislation activities, representing the interests of the industry. Recently this activity has been amplified: Silvio Mangini, one of the most knowledgeable experts on algae, EU regulation and standardisation, has retired from his industrial duties and moved part-time to EABA. | * **[[https://www.eaba-association.eu/|EABA]] — European Algae Biomass Association** is the principal networking body for the European algae sector, with more than 300 members from industry and academia. EABA has been actively involved in regulatory and standardisation activities, representing industry interests at EU level, and has been the primary forum within which much of the knowledge in these pages has been developed and debated. |
